A Competency Index for the Library Field

Cover of Competency Index

Call it an index, a guide, a dictionary, a menu of competencies. The purpose of this compilation of competency statements for library practice is to help libraries of all sizes and types build the foundation of competencies that will help them to develop staff skills and knowledge and ultimately to help meet the needs of the community.

Download the PDF and re-purpose it to your advantage. And please let us know what you think.

Take a look at other existing competency sets from around the library field.

Evaluation results are in!

Thanks to everyone who elected to take our Competency Evaluations.
We promised to share the results with you and here they are:

Connect competencies to learning

Competencies are foundational for aligning the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) of your library staff with the goals and objectives of the organization. WebJunction makes it easier to connect competencies to learning opportunities on our site.

As part of the WebJunction course catalog, you can now browse competency statements on Library Management, Personal/Interpersonal, and Technology to help identify areas for building essential skills. For more information, see How to use the Competencies.
